Bulbs and Tubers

Spring 2024 Bulbs!!

Notes from Spring

Fall 2023 Update

Brought in the last dahlias and other flowers in just after Halloween!!  We dug up the caladiums in mid-October when it got below 50 at night. We dug up the dahlias and the cannas after the first freeze.

We are overwintering 2 Cleopatra cannas that we acclimated and brought in earlier.  One of the cannas is blooming inside! Cut down stalks when finished flowering.

We dried tubers out and are storing in the garage wrapped in newsprint paper with some peat moss. We'll see how they do. We have a lot of tubers (we think).

Planted in the woodland garden and seem to do well. Order early if ordering.

Dahlias

I am not sure what to do with the dahlias in 2024. They need proper support.

Plant the dahlias in 8-10 inch pots in regular garden soil indoors. Keep constant 70 degrees. Do not water until they sprout - then need light. Soil temperature  must be consistently over 60 degrees to plant outside. For the dahlias, I would start them indoors but bring them outside when they sprout. The stems would be hardier
